Birnie Electric Certi-Fire electricians are recognized by the Ontario Fire Marshal, which certifies our licensed electricians to test, verify, and maintain fire alarm systems.

Our Certi-Fire electricians meet standards set out under the Ontario Electrical Code, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, and Underwriters Laboratories of Canada.

They undergo 160 hours of extensive training, which includes academic classroom sessions as well as practical hands-on classes. Birnie Electric electricians are recertified as required every five years, keeping our electricians up to date on the latest fire alarm technology, regulations, and best practices.

Certi-Fire and EACO/IBEW

The Certi-Fire program is open only to 309A licensed electricians in good standing and third-term or higher alternatives. The program is taught by instructors who themselves are certified electricians. Certi-Fire has been an evolving program for 20 years and is supported by the Joint Electrical Promotion Plan (JEPP), which is managed and funded by the Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario (ECAO) together with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Construction Council of Ontario (IBEW CCO).
